Ear Training Class
The
following is an example of the last year's Ear-Training Classes
Instructor: Grace Johnson, DMA
INFORMATION, EXPECTATIONS, AND REQUIREMENTS
Welcome to Ear-Training Class! In this class we will explore elements of music through singing and listening. These skills will aid you in playing and studying the music repertoire for your instruments. Although we will meet as a group, it is understood that everyone may be on different levels of ability. Use this class to practice and improve your skill level.
ORGANIZATION OF CLASSES: Each class will follow the following format: (1.) Warm up for voices and review of material from previous classes; (2.) Introduction of new material; (3.) Practice old and new skills; (4.) Listen to a recording of a selected genre/form.
LISTENING: When you listen to recordings of selected genres and forms, keep in mind the four primary elements of music: pitch (melody, harmony), dynamics (loud and soft), duration (rhythm, meter), and timbre (tone color). Continue to hone your listening skills by attending concerts and listening to music on the radio (KDFC 102.1 FM).
